The fifth annual Antigonish International Film Festival promises to be another wonderful series of presentations reaching across the entire range of human emotions. Once again it has been made possible by an impressive list of sponsors, who have helped us to offset the cost of Public Performance Rights Licenses, thus supporting independent film making. Also we are extremely grateful to our willing volunteers for their active participation in bringing this Festival to life in 2011.
It is just as important to emphasize positive success stories and reasons for hope as it is to reveal the corruption of power or the squandering of natural resources around the globe. This new festival brings together a broad diversity of films that provides something of interest for everyone. The attendance has increased steadily over the past four years and we hope once again to stimulate wide interest within the Antigonish community. To further encourage this participation downtown, we are presenting some of the films in the lovely new People’s Place Library.
The Film Festival is a wonderful place to meet new people with common interests. Chatting between films with those seated around you or during breaks and meeting friends for coffee or tea afterwards are exciting reasons to take part in this venture. We plan to continue this year our end of Festival Community Dinner where everyone can meet to discuss their favourite films and enjoy fine food for only $20. This year the dinner will be taking place at Prissy Pig Café & Deli at 20 St. Andrews Street. A cash bar will open at 6:00 p.m. and the meal will be served at 7:15 p.m. Tickets are sold separately from the festival pass and are available at Lyghtesome Gallery.
